Whether you live in Kansas or Missouri, you will be required to take courses to become a real estate agent.
Kansas requirements to become a real estate agent
- If you live in the State of Kansas, you must complete a 30-hour pre-license course at a state approved pre-license school.
- You must successfully pass the Kansas Salesperson's Examination prior to applying for a temporary license.
- Within six months of licensure, you much complete the 30-hour post license course.
Missouri requirements to become a real estate agent
- If you live in Missouri, you must complete a 48-hour pre-license course at a state approved pre-license school.
- The next step is to successfully pass the Missouri Salesperson’s Examination prior to applying for a Missouri salesperson’s license.
- You must complete an additional 24-hour Missouri Real Estate Practices course.
KANSAS and MISSOURI RECIPROCAL LICENSURE
Both Kansas and Missouri will issue reciprocal licenses to REALTORS® who have first received a license in their state of residence. The process for securing a license in your non-resident state requires applying for and receiving Certification of Good Standing form your home state, applying for a reciprocal license in you second state, and paying a fee. You are not required to re-test to secure a reciprocal license in your non-residence state. While Kansas and Missouri have reciprocity agreements not all states do.
In order to obtain a Kansas reciprocal license, a Missouri resident must complete the Kansas post license requirement. In order to renew a Missouri reciprocal license, a Kansas resident must complete the Missouri Real Estate Practices course.
